What I got was not as pictured with a single-finger touch pickup. ProForm TX-100 Heart Rate Monitor Watch The model I received needed two fingers on 2 front pickups and the backplate of the watch against a third part of you body (ie: it must be wrist mounted) to work. A real trick if you're jogging or anyway not still.
    Plus ...
You have to change the function from TIME to HR (another small side button) and then quickly position the above and "maybe" it would flash and the record HR. When it does, the HR is indeed accurate. Whenever you want to check HR, you have to jump through ALL the above hoops from the beginning as it reverts back to the TIME function after 20 seconds. It won't stay in HR function.
    And my unit ...
Completely died after 3 days. Piece of crap, I tossed it, and went back to putting my finger against my neck artery and counting for 10 seconds and multiplying by 6. That's foolproof and free.
    Don't bother with this one.

honestly, this product really isn't as good as advertised.
I bought it, to keep track of my heart rate while I did my high intesnity workouts. It arrived, visually it looks good, very easy to program. Now my first, "what the.." moment occured. Instead of just reading my heart rate from the pulse on my wrist, like other HR monitors I have seen, I had to place my fingers on the reader in order to get it. Second "what the.... " moment. The instructions for getting your Heart rate, showed 2 diffrent way to get it, either one didn't even work that well.I chalked it up to not it being new, and me not knowing. After 2 weeks, it still very tricky to get your heart rate at rest, let alone when your sweaty and worked out.
Spend the extra cash and get one that actually works.

PS. it makes a decent watch

It's OK, but did not work for my intended purpose. I would say you can use it for hiking or running, but not for cycling. You might use it for cycling if you don't wear cycling gloves. The info here at Amazon doesn't tell you, you have to enter it's HR mode then touch your finger pads to the sensors and have it read your HR. I had to stop, move my glove, slide it down over my pulse point, hit the button, then put finger pads on the sensors. Once let go, it returns to the mode you were in prior to the HR check.

This watch does what I hoped for and more. The heart rate mode and the time are simple enough to operate, and accurate enough. The stopwatch and countdown features are a plus/bonus. I find the watch band a little bulky...but good.

I bought this for my wife and she loves it... she isn't as much of a trainer herself, but want's to keep track of her heart rate, so she loves not having to wear a chest strap, and it only needs one finger to get the reading (since the backplate makes the other skin contact with her wrist). She has small and delicate hands and wrists, so I was worried about the size, but it isn't that bulky and also the wrist strap is thin enough for a woman. HR reading is quick and accurate, and also has other features like calories burned counter, chronometer and stopwatch that are a plus. If you are a trainer and want a constant and handsfree HR reading get a unit with a chest strap, but this one is a good option for those who just want an occational HR reading.

The watch was returned because it does not work, can not get heart rate consistently. The picture on the Amazon web site is NOT the TX-100, it is the older model S7. The S7 is an excellent watch and for some reason has been discontinued, I did find 2 at Walmart in Oklahoma while there recently. My Walmart in AZ does not carry them any longer only the TX-100.

I might not have read the description fully -- or well. That being said, every exercise HR monitor I have used or seen .. allows continuous hands free monitoring.

Not this model. It requires you to press a button for a few seconds and then place two fingers on particular parts of the watch to register your pulse. If you remove your fingers, you lose the read out on the pulse.

Not nearly as easy to (imagine if you are running) as the typical hands free monitor to use.

This monitor is ok, but,...1. no chest strap, good....2. bad: can't hear the alarm beep. Have to hold it up against my ear to hear it.
    (where's da beep?)
