Butte County welcomes new Public Health Director

The staff of Butte County Public Health is getting to know their new leader this week.

Monday was Danette York’s first day as the public health director for Butte County. She succeeds former director Cathy Raevsky who retired on March 1, 2019.

“She will have her hands full getting up to speed with Camp Fire recovery operations. Our team is here to support her in all aspects of Public Health in Butte County,” said Dr. Andy Miller, county health officer.

York comes to Butte County with 20 years of experience in public health leadership. She spent close to ten years as Director of the Lewis County Public Health and Social Services Department in the state of Washington.

York has a Master’s degree in public health and specializes in epidemiology and health administration. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Northern Kentucky University and her Master’s degree in Public Health from Ohio State University.

York said, “I am excited to take on this leadership role for Butte County Public Health and look forward to working with the dedicated public health team to serve the residents of the county.

Butte County Health Officer Dr. Andy Miller said there are many opportunities for growth right now in the department. He said the county needs a leader who understands the essential services of public health, but with a rural focus.
