In the year 2006, when Marcus Trescothick pulled out of England’s tour to India then the reasons were not made clear. Later it was revealed that the cricketer pulled out because he was having some mental issues. This came as a shock to everyone but not to the England cricket team. Why? Keep reading ahead.
Jonathan Trott was forced to leave the Ashes tour in 2013/14 after the first test in Brisbane. The reasons cited were stress-related issues. Bob Willis was also one such actor who suffered from depression during his time as an international cricketer.
Not only is stress related issues restricted to England cricket team only. Even outside England in other countries like Australia and New Zealand people are seen dealing with stress-related issues and majorly cricketers. Michael Slater dealt with bipolar disorder and even had to be admitted to the hospital during the tour to West Indies when he was working as a commentator.
Recently Alex Hales has taken an indefinite break from his career and that too when the world cup is going on. It is shocking when a cricketer decided to take a break from the cricket especially when the world cup is on and the actor is playing only on the shorter versions in international cricket.

So, the question here is why English cricketers only?
Well, we are yet to know the answer to this. This is very true that the entire world is going through depression and mental health issues. Everybody is suffering through the same and thus this is a global cause of concern. But the majority of English cricket players have been suffering through the same. Also, this has been the trend for a decade or maybe even before that. So, what is the reason behind this?
It seems that the country has got quite strict rules for playing the matches. Or maybe the country has a policy that the player should constantly be on roads while playing first class and A list matches. Also, the atmosphere is dressing rooms can also be one of the major reasons for the growing mental stress.
The reason is definitely hard to pick. But I guess English cricket board must look at this issue very closely and take some drastic steps and try to change the internal atmosphere else their own and very much loved game would become a victim of this stress.
