When you are looking at your phone in the night then your mind gets a signal that this is not the time to sleep. Some people say that we will use the phone till we fell asleep. But that’s not going to happen because your phone will not allow you to sleep. The backlit screen actually tells your phone not to secrete melatonin which is actually a sleep-inducing hormone.
One of the doctors said
“You’re checking [your phone] some more because you’re up, after all,” “so why shouldn’t you check?” “We now know,” “that what sleep is likely doing is allowing your active neurons to rest.” Sounds good, doesn’t it? But more than that,”
Dr. Siegel continued,
“the supportive cells, called ‘glial cells,’ are now cleaning up the toxins that the neurons produced.” In effect, sufficient sleep is like a deep clean for the brain”.
People sometimes feel fresh just after waking up and they think that their body only needs 4-5 hours of sleep but that is so wrong. Your body needs a minimum of 7-8 hours and then only it will be able to flush out the toxins. Sleep deprivation also impacts your memory, attention span, and your problem-solving skills as well.
Even your metabolism rate also gets depleted with time. Insulin secretion also drops down and this makes us eat more which actually contributes to weight gain. Staying away from your smartphones and laptops at least one hour before the sleep helps you to get better and sound sleep.
