The ‘Dabangg’ girl when entered the industry gained a lot of comments, thanks to her excellent portrayal of a small town girl and secondly, for her weight. Even after losing thirty kilos before entering the tinsel town, Sonakshi was still too far from fitting into the criteria of perfect body figure of the actresses in Bollywood. However, the ‘Shotgun’ girl was determined and self-motivated to achieve a figure to die for and shut all her critics. In the next movies, Ms. Sinha looked more well-toned and confident in her healthy body while performing on the big screen.

Though Sona (how she is fondly called by her family and close friends) was motivated after losing a few kilos in the beginning of her weight loss journey, her injuries and pain were becoming a big hurdle. Going to the gym was increasingly becoming aching and troublesome as the actress hated it, but her determination and motivation by her guide Salman Khan kept her going and achieve what was once unimaginable for her.

“It was not easy at all for somebody like me. I am the kind of person who hates the gym. I am allergic to the gym. I want to run away from it. But I think once I put my mind to something, I go out and achieve it and I guess I did that,’ Sonakshi had said for an interview for a health and lifestyle magazine.

Sonakshi’s Workout Routine and Fitness Regime

At gym, Sonakshi engaged herself in intense cardio workouts to shed the unsolicited flab and tone her body. Her workout sessions were a well-balanced mix of:

  • Cardio exercises
  • Intense Weight training
  • Cycling
  • Tennis
  • Swimming
  • Spinning

Her trainer Yasmin Karachiwala also helped her practice functional training and hot yoga. Hot Yoga is performed under hot and humid conditions; it increases one’s flexibility and tone the body. It also strengthens the core muscles. In the initial days, Sonakshi performed hot yoga twice in a day and later, he made her perform it five days in a week for almost an hour and a half.

Sonakshi’s Diet Plan

A foodie by nature, Sonakshi loved gorging on junk food. But her profession required her to concentrate on a healthy life and body. To support her strenuous exercise routine, Yasmin had put her on a high-protein, low carbohydrate diet. Her amount of water a day was also increased to keep her hydrated. She also drank several cups of weight loss green tea throughout her day.

In her daily diet, Sonakshi made sure to avoid consuming any food containing carbs after 6 pm. Also in every three hours, she was consuming small nutritious meals. Here are the various meals of her day:


  • Whole wheat toast
  • Cereal and Milk

Mid Morning

  • A cup of green tea
  • A handful of dry fruits


  • Sonakshi prefers homemade food for her lunch and usually, eats roti, sabzi and chappati with a bowl of salad


For evening snacks, she eats either:

  • a fruit or diet biscuits
  • a cup of green tea


  • Dal
  • Chicken
  • Egg whites or fish

With all her continuous efforts to lose unwanted weight and followed strict diet in 2014, Sonakshi appeared great in her movie ‘Holiday’ with Akshay Kumar and ‘Tevar’ with Arjun Kapoor. She has lost chubbiness of her cheeks and baby fat.

Those who idolise Sonakshi as their weight loss inspiration, must keep in mind that while going through this process, Sonakshi never lost her confidence and did not let her critics affect her in any way. To those who still went on commenting on her weight, Sona posted a picture of Skeleton and wrote, “‘To all those who keep commenting on my weight, whether it’s a full picture, or a close up where you can’t see jack. Take a good look at this picture. Now get this: 1) This isn’t ever gonna be me 2) Get over it. 3) I wish you could see which finger I hold up for shallow and idiotic people like yourself.”
